Not only did The Preachers Kid chart on iTunes (pretty amazing for a COMPLETELY INDIE artist) but the party / show Tom P threw to celebrate had a great turn out on the same day Tom P was featured in Atlanta's largest press "Creative Loafing" with a full article. Here are a few pictures from Tom P's live performance. Tom P opens for MGK and ACE Hood at LUNAR MASSIVE FESTIVAL

Atlanta MC Tom P and Machine Gun Kelly backstage at The Lunar Massive Festival in Atlanta. The festival booked a ton of popular EDM music, but only several rappers for the bill. Check out the flyer below.

Tom P drops his much anticipated 3rd album "The Preachers Kid"

Tom P drops his new album The Preacher Kid.

After 2 years in the making, Atlanta MC Tom P releases his 3rd solo album The Preachers Kid. It debuted in the top 100 on iTunes and received great reviews from fans and across the blogosphere. The album featured several of Tom P's fellow Atlanta homeys/talents like RITTZ, Jarren Benton, Trinidad James, Rehab, Playboy Tre, BIGREC, Gripplyaz and Alexandria Lushington. 

Tom P had recently won "Best hip hop act in Atlanta" which only added to the buzz around this artist come Nov 5th when the album finally dropped on-line.

Tom P headlines packed out show at Wild Bills

Tom p performs live at Wild Bills as part of The Wild Bills Takeover. The buzzing Atlanta artist released his new album The Preachers Kid on Novemeber 5th 2013. This was part of a brief gig-run that Tom P and his crew did to build hype around the album's release. The album ended up charting on iTunes and topped the independent charts. Tom P opens for TOO $HORT at the A3C Festival

Atlanta rapper Tom P returns to the A3C hip hop festival for the fifth year. This year he opened for rap legend Too Short and up and comer Problem on one of the main stages of the festival. Tom P rocks 2nd Annual BET HIP HOP AWARDS pre-show concert w/ Mixtape Atlas

Tom P performs live at the BET HIP HOP AWARDS Pre-Show Concert with other up and coming rap talent from the city. Tom P was listed as a headliner, unsurprising due to the buzzing MC recently winning "best hip hop act" in the city and recent shows with MGK, Techn9ne and a headlining performance with Too Short at the A3C. Tom P rocks the SMKA "Hangout Fest" release party

What is "The Hangout?" It's a mix tape that was put together by Atlanta production/branding team SMKA. Tom P has done a lot of work with SMKA over the years. Read more about that here. The mix tape can be described as..

"The Hang Out" is a compilation project created during the A3C Festival in Atlanta at the legendary Stankonia Studios. Production crew SMKA were tapped to created original music while rappers came in and out of the Stankonia Studios during the three-day festival, resulting in this free mixtape. Features include Problem, Tom P, Jarren Benton, Chuck Inglish, Boldy James, Forte Bowie, Denzel Curry, King’s Dead, Kris Kassanova, Scotty ATL, Chill Moody, Kidd Kidd, 40 Akerz, Earthgang, Shawn Crystopher, Bizzy Crook, Cool is Mac, Chase Allen, GQ, Halo, Planet lV and more." The mix tape was accompanied by a release party at Star Bar. Tom P performed live alongside a lot of other up and coming Atlanta talent, most of whom was featured on the mix tape.

UPDATE: SMKA, Fadia Kader and Esperanza hope to recreate the magic of last week's release party at SXSW this year by throwing a free Atlanta showcase involving many of the same artists who performed at the Star Bar on Jan. 22. They're currently seeking partnerships with Atlanta businesses, brands and/or personalities interested in collaborating to pull it off a show that's not intended for them to make profit but to put the spotlight on the local scene. There will be two shows here in Atlanta, March 5 and 12, to raise funds for the SXSW show scheduled to take place Thurs, Mar. 18 at the Light Bar in downtown Austin, Tex. Email smkaproductions@gmail.com for more info.

Hate to sound like a hype man, especially since CL was "co-hosting" SMKA's mixtape compilation release, but even I was surprised when I got to The 808 Experiment: Vol. 2 release party last Friday night after the start time to see a line snaking outside the Star Bar onto Moreland Ave. Inside, the place was vibrating with the kind of energy I haven't felt at a local scene hip-hop show since...dare I say, ever. If you missed the show, you missed an insane amount of underground Atlanta all-stars under one roof. A cat like Tom P could have easily packed out the place by himself with the rabid Decatur fanbase he's built. The same could be said for Yelawolf, Hollyweerd, Rahbi, Gripplyaz and a host of others who were on the bill that night. But the success of that show proved there's strength in numbers.

The best performance of the night came from ALeon Craft, who gave the crowd a snippet of"Botanicals," his song on Vol. 2, while firing up a skinny blunt onstage. Before the song was halfway through, he had DJ Sol Messiah cut the track and asked the crowd if they wanted to hear some new shit. The track Messiah proceeded to play was such a dookie funked-out groove that it felt like we were entering an alternate dimension with ALeon as some extraterrestrial Clintonian (George, not Bill) tour guide.

Atlanta rapper Tom P opens for B.O.B in Atlanta

B.O.B's career was just taking off back in 2009 and he was a cat who, like Tom P, also claimed Decatur. He had recently signed a deal with Grand Hustle and had some buzz. I decided we should try to get a show with him. I went through some contacts I had made when we did our shows at The Bench and when we opened for D12.

Things came through and we were able to get on a B.O.B show. We named it The Jump Off 4. Sort of in conjunction with my Jump off series, we were trying to move into more legit venues instead. The show packed out with about 500-600 fans that were surprisingly mostly ours and not B.O.B's. It goes to show you how much things can change overnight. My buddy T McG filmed the show and put together a few videos. I was able to find them buried deep on Youtube. FUN FACT: B.O.B performed Beautiful Girls at this show for the FIRST TIME ever in his career. Of course the song went on to be a mega hit and launched B.O.B into stardom.
